Ingredients Weight Measure
Dried black beans 5 lbs.
Butter or margarine 1 lb. 2 cups
Bay leaves 4 ea.
Salt 2 Tbsp.
TABASCO® brand Original Red Sauce 1 Tbsp.
Dried leaf oregano 1 Tbsp.
Curry powder 2 tsp.
Cumin seeds 1 tsp.


  1. Place all ingredients in large pot. Add water just to cover beans. Bring to boil. Stir; reduce heat. Cover.
  2. Simmer, stirring occasionally for 2-1/2 to 3 hours until beans are tender but whole and liquid is absorbed. More water may be added during cooking process if liquid is absorbed before beans are tender.
  3. Remove bay leaves. Serve with additional TABASCO® Sauce, if desired.
