Onion Rings

Ingredients Weight Measure
Flour 4 cups
Baking powder 1 tsp.
Granulated sugar 6 Tbsp.
Salt 1 tsp.
Corn oil 6 Tbsp.
Eggs, beaten 2 ea.
Water 1 qt.
TABASCO® brand Original Red Sauce 1/2 cup
Onion rings, 1/2" thick 120 ea.
Oil, for frying
Salt to taste

Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce

Honey 2 cups
Yellow mustard 1/4 cup
TABASCO® brand Original Red Sauce 2 Tbsp.
Chili powder 1 tsp.


  1. To make Onion Rings, combine flour, baking powder, sugar and salt. Combine oil, eggs, water and TABASCO® Sauce. Add flour mixture to the liquid and mix until smooth to make batter. Preheat frying oil to 350°F. Gently place onion rings in batter a few at a time. Using a roasting fork, pick up onions and dip in oil, turning occasionally until golden brown. Remove from fryer and drain. Season with salt to taste.
  2. To make Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce, combine all ingredients and mix well.
  3. Place Onion Rings in a basket and serve with Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce.

Yield: 12 servings

The thick consistency of the batter makes it excellent to use for breaded mushrooms, cauliflower, shrimp and scallops as well, and the sauce is also an excellent glaze for chicken or fish.
