Spanish onions, sliced thin 1 lb.
Salt and pepper to taste
Vegetable oil 3 Tbsp.
TABASCO® brand Original Red Sauce 1/4 cup
Butter as needed
White bread, sandwich cut 24 slices
American cheese, sandwich cut 24 slices


  1. In a stainless steel bowl, combine the onions, salt and pepper, and vegetable oil. Mix until onions are well coated.
  2. Place onions on a sheet pan and bake in a preheated 300°F oven for 15-17 minutes or until cooked through. Remove from oven and cool.
  3. Return cooked onions to a bowl and combine with TABASCO® Sauce.
  4. For each sandwich, butter 1 side of each of 2 slices of white bread. On the unbuttered side of 1 slice, place 2 slices of American cheese, top with the prepared onion mixture and other slice of bread, buttered-side up.
  5. Using a preheated nonstick skillet, lightly toast each buttered side of the sandwich until golden brown and cheese is melted.

Yield: 12 sandwiches
