3-CHEESE QUESO WITH TABASCO® BRAND JALAPEÑO FLAVOR

TABASCO® Green Jalapeño Pepper Sauce features the tangy flavor of jalapeño peppers with a gentler heat. Green jalapeño peppers are picked at their peak, which gives TABASCO® Green Sauce the classic, bright flavors found in every bottle. When blended into Qdoba’s signature 3-cheese Queso, the piquant flavor of the TABASCO® Green Sauce brings the creamy, cheesy goodness to life, creating the ultimate Jalapeño Pepper Queso that customers had to have!

GIVING GUESTS THE FLAVOR THEY CRAVE

The promotion allowed Qdoba guests the option to add the Green TABASCO® Flavored Queso to any of their favorite entrées, such as burritos, bowls, nachos and quesadillas, for no additional charge, order the Green Queso to pair with chips for the ultimate Queso experience, or pair with Qdoba’s signature 3-Cheese Queso in the “Queso Duo” sampler.

WHY IT WORKED

Queso and TABASCO® Green Sauce are made for each other. “A staple ingredient in Mexican cuisine, jalapeño peppers add a kick of heat without being overpowering, which is why we paired it with Qdoba’s signature 3-cheese Queso,” explains Judson McLester, executive chef and ingredient sales manager for McIlhenny Company, producer of TABASCO® brand Pepper Sauce flavors. “It’s the perfect balance of flavor in every bite.” A comprehensive social media plan and radio promotion was implemented to promote the special limited-time queso. The plan consisted of social media engagement with consumers, targeted pitching, menu sampling, gift-card giveaways and St. Patrick’s Day radio promotions in the Chicago and Tampa, Florida, markets. From social to broadcast, the promotion was a huge success, resulting in over 4 million media impressions, with 3.4 million social media impressions and over 90 radio placements.
This promotion was a consumer favorite and a perfect example of the enthusiasm and success of brand partnerships. The collaboration between queso and spice worked to fulfill consumer demand for authentic-yet-flavorful Mexican menu items.
